Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The month of October is breast cancer awareness month and chances are you or someone you know has been affected by this disease.  I personally know many women who have fought this disease, two of which were young mothers with young children who sadly lost their battle.  This is so very sad and should not happen.  But in fact 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for women.

Early detection is very important.  According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation you should perform monthly self breast exams, have a clinical breast exam by your doctor or qualified nurse and if you are over 40 have a mammogram every one or two years or as directed by your doctor. If you are under forty and have risk factors you should discuss with your doctor if a mammogram is right for you.

During the month of October Little Girl Style will be donating 10% of each sale to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.  For more information visit their website at  http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org.  Let’s fight this deadly disease together.

Halloween Fun and Safety

Now that Labor Day is past it is time to start thinking about Halloween and fall parties.   Little Girl Style wants to make sure that all of your little ones are safe when they are trick-or-treating.  According to the CDC below you will find the ABC’s of trick-or-treating safety. Visit the CDC link at the bottom of the page for more Halloween safety suggestions.

S-Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be short, soft, and flexible.

A-Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.

F -Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.

E -Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the amount of treats you eat.

H-Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Always WALK and don’t run from house to house.

-Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it before bedtime to prevent possible skin and eye irritation.

L -Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.

L-Lower your risk for serious eye injury by not wearing decorative contact lenses.

O -Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe.

W -Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls.

E -Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers.

E-Enter homes only if you’re with a trusted adult. Only visit well-lit houses. Don’t stop at dark houses. Never accept rides from strangers.

N-Never walk near lit candles or luminaries. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.

All of the costumes offered at Little Girl Style are fun and stylish.  Since none of our costumes come with masks, you do not need to worry about your child’s vision being impaired.  We have added some new costumes that we think you will like!

Back To School Time!

Little Girl Backpacks

Is it just me or is this summer just flying by?   If you have school age children, you know what I mean.  It seems like you just start having fun or you get back from vacation and it is already time to start thinking about school supplies.  But before you rush out to get that new little girl backpack there are some important facts you should know.

1. Children can sustain injury if their backpack is too heavy for them or if they are not wearing them properly.  (Both of my girls have had to visit the chiropractor for back pain related to backpacks)

2. Your child’s backpack should not weigh more than 15% of his or her body weight when loaded with books and supplies.  So if your child weighs 100 pounds the backpack should weigh no more than 15 pounds.

3. Backpacks should be worn lower on the back. This lower positioning will be more in line with the body’s center of gravity and in turn have less impact on posture and less strain on the neck, back and shoulders.

Little Girl Styleoffers a variety of little girl backpacks to meet your needs!  Our Serious backpack is our largest, measuring 18 x 13.5  x 8 it has a padded sleeve to hold your 15 inch laptop. Features include 5 exterior pockets and an insulted bottle holder. It also has a pocket for your ipod and you can even attach your lunch box. Includes padded waist strap to lighten the load.

For our smaller students I suggest our Bogo Backpack.  This backpack measures 15 x 12  x 5.5 in. This backpack comes with a detachable lunchbox so your little girl will not have to worry about carrying her lunch box separately.

Go to LittleGirlStyle.com and see all of our unique little girl backpack designs as well as  our matching lunch bags and pencil cases.  We even have little girl sleeping bags in matching designs.
